About The Club:

Club History:

Basketball has always had a good following in Worthing; Starting with the Worthing Bears circa. 1984, but in 1999 when new owners came in are-located the franchise to Brighton thus depriving Worthing of a local team, five supporters took it upon themselves to create a new team. Applications to England Basketball for a 1st Division team were initially rejected but eventually a franchise was purchased from Stevenage and re-located to the South Coast and Worthing Thunder was born!

Season 1999/00: The club's inaugural season saw Thunder finish a creditable 2nd in the league and to reach the National Trophy Final at Sheffield, being eventual runners up to Teesside Mohawks.

Season 2000/01: Thunder again finished 2nd in the league and reached the play-off finals at Wembley, losing narrowly to Plymouth Raiders (now BBL) in the final.

Season 2001/02: Despite only finishing 6th in the Division this season, Thunder once more made the National Trophy Final where they met Teesside Mohawks. Despite losing in the Trophy Final Thunder were the ONLY team to beat Mohawks in regular competition that season.

Season 2002/03: Thunder finished a more creditable 4th in the league and again met Teesside, this time in the National Trophy Final but ultimately the silverware eluded them once more!

Season 2003/04: This was the season where Thunder's search for the elusive silverware came off! They won the National Trophy for the first time in the club's history. Positions in the league table were very closely contested and ultimately dependant upon points difference. The untimely loss of one game saw Thunder slip to 5th position from 2nd place.

Season 2004/05: Thunder reached the semi-final of the National Cup, losing by 1 point after overtime to Sheffield Arrows. 6th placed Thunder met League Champions Sheffield once again in the final of the National Trophy, losing narrowly 83-76.

Season 2005/2006: The league was increased in size to 14 teams and proved to be the most competitive ever! The league title went right down to the wire with Thunder becoming League Champions winning 23 of their 26 matches. League Runners-up Reading Rockets were Thunder's opponents in the play-off final and eventually ran out 103-99 winners in a closely fought and exciting final at the NIA.
